Bio
of our Owner and Senior Counselor, Laura Dash:
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Laura has spent her entire life
with a house-full of animals from furred to feathered. Early
on, she learned the special relationship that is possible between
humans and their animal companions. And, like many children
who love animals, she dreamed of becoming a veterinarian so
she could help pets live better lives. While Animal Medicine
attracted her at first, she discovered instead that the psychology....the
behavior of animals and what made them "tick" to be
much more intriguing and rewarding. Animal Behavior became the
way Laura choose to enhance first her own, then other's animal
lives. She found that by improving the relationship between
owners and their dogs, and creating an understanding of why
dogs do what they do, more dogs stayed in solid, loving homes.
Once sure that this was her calling and a positive future, Laura
began her training & behavior study at the Animal Behavior
Center of New York. Graduating with top honors, she became a
certified canine behavior counselor & positive trainer.
Since then, her efforts have been tireless in not only assisting
owners in solving dog issues, but buy providing consultation
to local shelters, offering conditioning and modification to
many dogs that were once considered "death row" dogs,
and are now in loving homes.
Laura is a member of the Association of Companion Animal Behavior
Counselors (ACABC), a member of the APDT Association of Pet
Dog Trainers and the International Association of Animal Behavior
Consultants. Laura has done extensive volunteer work with many
local rescue groups in training and helping solve behavioral
problems for them. She also attends many seminars each year,
as well as keeping up with the plethora of continuing study
on animal behavior to include all updated & modern diagnosis
and solutions.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The key to achieving this relationship is the ability to
understand and communicate with our dogs. When we cannot communicate
desirable behavior and undesirable behavior to our dogs, miscommunications
occur. These miscommunications can often result in heartache,
with behavior problems developed and unresolved, a worsening
in quality of life due to undesirable behaviors and the inability
to coexist peacefully. Frustration, stress and deep disappointment
are often experienced as the special relationship hoped and
yearned for is sadly missed.
The tragedy of these misguided relationships is that often
they could have been transformed into the harmonious and enriching
relationship that was originally sought.
My mission is to help prevent these tragedies from occurring
and to help create that special bond between people and their
dogs. Along with a natural intuition and ability, I have devoted
myself to the study, techniques and experiences most effective
in attaining true communication with our dogs.
In addition to training as well as preventing and resolving
behavior problems in your dog I also help you to attain the
ability of understanding and communicating with your dog.
All clients are active participants in the training process
and are taught how to effectively communicate with their dogs
and are very much involved in the training of their dog. With
the knowledge of effective communication gained the foundation
is laid for the path to attaining that truly deep and special
bond between you and your dog. Through training, we can unlock
your dog's true potential.
